Emotional intelligence is the capability of
individuals to recognize their own emotions and
those of others, discern between different feelings
and label them appropriately, use emotional
information to guide thinking and behavior, and
manage and/or adjust emotions to adapt to
environments or achieve one's goals.
Emotional intelligence is a term created by two
researchers – Peter Salavoy and John Mayor and
popularised by Dan Goleman.
It is defined as the ability to:
 The ability to be aware of, name, and manage one’s
emotions.
 The ability to be aware of, name and understand
others emotions.
 The ability to relate to others in effective ways both
personally and professionally.
