Ancient Egypt was a civilization of ancient North

Africa, concentrated along the lower reaches of the

Nile River in the place that is now the country Egypt.
Ancient Egyptian civilization followed prehistoric
Egypt and coalesced around 3100 BC (according to
conventional Egyptian chronology) with the political
unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under
Menes (often identified with Narmer). The history of
ancient Egypt occurred as a series of stable
kingdoms, separated by periods of relative instability
known as Intermediate Periods: the Old Kingdom of
theEarly Bronze Age, the Middle Kingdom of the
Middle Bronze Age and the New Kingdom of the Late
Bronze Age.
Though he died of the young man,
Tutankhamun is probably the most famous
pharaoh in the history of ancient Egypt. He
ascended to the throne at just 9 years and is part
of the Golden Age of the Pharaohs.
He married just 7 years, with Ankesenamon,
none other than his stepsister. He reigned in Egypt
for only 9 years, dying at the young age of 19.
The Egyptian pyramids represent one of the
oldest wonders of the ancient world.

They are old stone constructions, in pyramid

form, built as tombs for the pharaohs of the
Ancient and Middle kingdoms.

In Egypt there are over 90 pyramids, the

most famous being located at Giza, on the
outskirts of Cairo.
The pyramids were built quite easily: as the
pyramid grew around it, the workers made a
ramp on which they erected stone blocks on
wooden breasts.

In this way they put the block after the block,

until the pyramid was finished, then the ramp
was removed, leaving the pyramid alone, in all
its beauty.

A famous and impressive monument, the

Great Sphinx of Giza is a gigantic statue of a
mythical creature with a lion's body and a
woman's head.

power shifted from the ancient capital of Memphis to
Thebes in the south, the site of modern-day Luxor.

city has much to offer the traveler from the ancient
temples of Karnak and Luxor, to the ancient royal
tombs of the Valley of the Kings and Queens, and

Egypt’s southernmost city, Aswan is a mid-
sized city located north of Lake Nasser.
Although its own monuments are minor
compared to Luxor’s, Aswan is the base for
excursions to the temples of Philae and Kabasha
and the Sun Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel,
to the south. It is also the best starting point for
excursions to the temples of Kom Ombo and
Edfu, between Aswan and Luxor.
Dahshur is a necropolis located in the desert
on the west bank of the Nile River approximately
40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Cairo. Compared
to Giza and Saqqara, it is a more tranquil and
isolated location to see some very large pyramids.
Visitor numbers are much smaller, queues are way
shorter and there is far less hassle. Pyramids at
Dahshur include the Bent Pyramid and the Red
Pyramid, constructed during the reign of Pharaoh
Sneferu (2613-2589 BC).

Egyptian coffee first appeared in the
Ottoman empire many years ago. Many use the
grounds left after drinking the beverage for
fortune telling. Egyptian coffee is prepared by
mixing ground coffee and hot water in a pot
called the cezve. The beans must be grounded
to a very fine powder, which is left in the
beverage cup when served. It can only be
served hot. The fine powder is mixed in the
cezve with sugar and water. As soon as the
water boils, it’s taken off the heat and served.
The beverage is normally served in a traditional
cup called the kahve finjanı. The sugar must be
added to the beverage while brewing;
however, it can be served unsweetened. It is
traditionally served with something sweet to eat.
