 Introduction
 Human being uses five sense organ to sense real world around us.
 But the name suggest that this technology bring one additional sense.
 Sixth sense is ESP aim at more developed future with both the real
world and digital world.
It enable human being to sense the real world and converts into digital
world.

 Sixth sense technology is a simple wearable gestural interface
device.
 This device is actually a mini projector coupled with a camera and
a smart phone, designed for obeying hand gestures.

Using simple hand gestures, touch screens
(like computer screen) can be obtained from
any surface for various applications.
 It was developed at Media labs in
MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology).
 This technology have various application like
drawing application, taking picture, making
call, reading news paper, checking time
through recognizing the movement of index
fingers (used as color mark).

 History
 This technology was founded by two person
1. Steve Mann
 He was born in 1962.
 He is father of sixth sense Technology
 He made a wearable computer in 1990.
 The Sixth Sense Technology was first implemented
as the neck worn projector + camera system.
 He was a media lab student at that time, bit know
he the professor at University of Toronto.

2. Pranav Mistry
 After Stave Mann, the concept was
developed further by famous
person Pranav Mistry.
 He is an Indian computer scientist.
 Know he is head of think tank
team (T3) and director of Samsung
research in America at MIT in
media lab.

 This sixth sense technology provides us with the freedom of
interacting with the digital world using hand gestures.
 This technology has a wide application in the field of artificial
intelligence.
 This technology enables people to interact in the digital world as
if they are just interacting in the real world.

 Components and their features
Camera: If there is any object in view, then the
object is recognized by the webcam and using
computer-vision based techniques the user’s
gestures are tracked and it sends the data to the
Smartphone.
 Projector: The projector projects the visual
information on any surface, including the object
itself or your hand. The project itself contains a
battery inside, with 3 hours of battery life.

 Mirror: The downward-facing projector projects
the output image on to the mirror. And the mirror
reflects this image on to the desired surface.
 Mobile Component: The mobile devices like the
Smartphone are used to handle connection to the
internet. Using mobile internet data and voice can
be communicated across the world either by
transmitting or by receiving it.

 Color markers: It is at the tip of users finger. Used
in order to make camera understand the position of
the finger. It helps camera to recognize the hand
gestures that act as an interaction instruction for the
projected application interfaces.
 Micraphone: Microphone is an optional
component. It is required when using paper as an
interactive surface by capturing sound across the
paper medium.

 How it work ?
The sixth sense technology works as follow
1. Camera captures the image of object in view and tracks the user’s
hand gestures.
2. Camera sends this image to smartphone.
3. The smartphone searches the web and interprets the hand gestures
with the help of colored markers.
4. The information that is interpreted through the smartphone can be
projected into any surface.
5. The mirror reflects the image on desired surface.

is a field that includes methods for
acquiring, processing, analyzing, and
understanding images and, in general,
high-dimensional data from the real
world in order to produce numerical
or symbolic information, e.g., in the
forms of decisions.

 Radio Frequency Identification: RFID is a system used to
track objects, people, or animals using tags that respond to
radio waves.

applications that people have been experiencing before.

1. Take pictures: The gestural camera
understands the framing gesture
made by the user and it captures the
image of the scene the user is
looking at.
 When four fingertips are combined to
form a rectangular frame, the camera
understands it as a framing gesture and
captures the image inside that frame

2. Make a Call to friend:
 Call can be made by typing the numbers on the hand. It displays the
keypad of the phone over your palm and the keys appear on the four
fingers… Use another hand’s finger to press the keys.

3. Searching map
 Mapping can be used to navigate, to find places, to find the shortest
path and many more things. It can also be done anywhere with the
features of zooming in or zooming out.

4. Drawing Application
 The drawing application lets user to draw pictures on any surface by
observing the movement of index finger.

5. Check Time (Clock)
 It is not necessary to buy watches anymore to see the time. Users do
not have to take their phone out from the pocket.
 Using clock application of sixth sense device, in order to check the
time, all that the users need to do is show their wrist in front of the
camera and just draw a circle on it.

 Advantage of sixth sense technology
1. Portability: One of the main advantages of the sixth
sense devices is its small size and portability.
2. Support multi touch and multi user interaction:
Multi touch and multi user interaction is another added
feature of the sixth sense devices.
3. Cost effective:The cost incurred for the construction
of the sixth sense proto type is quiet low. About $350

4. Connectedness between real world and digital world: Forming
Connection between the real world and the digital world was the main
aim of the sixth sense technology.
5. Data access directly from the machines in real time: With help of
a sixth sense device the user can easily access data from any machine at
real time speed.
6. Open source software:The software that is used to interpret and
analysis the data collected by the device is made open source.
7. Mind map the idea anywhere:With the advent of the sixth sense
device, requirement of a platform or a screen to analyze and interpret
the data has become obsolete.

 Disadvantage of Sixth sense technology
 We have to give correct instruction during the movement
of index fingers in gesture recognition.
 The projectors runs on batteries for power where regularly
have to place. So the battery need to charge with in 3hr
interval b/c the life battery stay only for three hours.

 Conclusion
 Sixth Sense recognizes the objects around us, displaying
information automatically and letting us to access it in any way
we need.
 This prototype implements several applications that
demonstrate the usefulness, viability and flexibility of the
system, allowing us to interact with this information via natural
hand gestures.
