 BACKGROUND

• STUDY ON THE POLITICS OF (FOREIGN) INVESTMENT AND THE OPERATIONS OF

MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS (MNCS) IS PART OF THE STUDY OF INTERNATINAL RELATIONS
(IR) UNDER THE RUBRIC OF INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY (IPE).
• THIS COURSE EXAMINES THE PHENOMENON OF FOREIGN INVESTMENT AND MNCS FROM THE
DEVELOPED COUNTRIES; AND THEIR OPERATIONS IN THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
• THE MAIN ISSUE CONCERNING FOREIGN INVESTMENT AND MNCS IS THE INEQUALITY CAUSED
BY ASYMETRICAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DEVELOPED AND DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
 AIM OF THIS COURSE

• TO EXPLORE THE ORIGIN, EMERGENCE AND DEVELOPMENT OF MNC IN THE DEVELOPED

COUNTRIES AND THEIR OPERATION IN THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
• TO EXAMINE THE THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVES—PARTICULARLY FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF
INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY—OF FOREIGN INVESTMENT MNCS
• TO EXPLORE THE EMPIRICAL FACTS OF MNCS ACTIVITIES IN THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES.
