COUGH
SYRUP ABUSE
•  is taking non-recommended, extremely high
doses of over-the-counter cough syrup in order
to get high.
• The "high" is caused by taking a large amount
of dextromethorphan (DXM), a common active
ingredient found in many cough medications. 
• Can cause vomiting, cardiac arrest, muscle
spasms and delirium.

METHAMPHETAMINE (SHABU)
• colloquially known as meth  is a psychoactive stimulant
drug of the phenethylamine and amphetamine chemical
classes.
• increases alertness, concentration, energy, and in high
doses, induces euphoria, enhances self-esteem, and
increases libido
• Physical effects can include anorexia, hyperactivity, 
dilated pupils, flushing,restlessness, dry mouth, headache, 
tachycardia, bradycardia, tachypnea, hypertension, 
hypotension, hyperthermia, diaphoresis,  diarrhea, 
constipation,blurred vision, dizziness,
twitching, insomnia, numbness, palpitations
Signs and Symptoms of Drug Abuse
• Physical Signs
• Loss of appetite, increase in appetite, any changes in eating habits, unexplained weight loss or
gain.
• Slowed or staggering walk; poor physical coordination.
• Inability to sleep, awake at unusual times, unusual laziness.
• Red, watery eyes; pupils larger or smaller than usual; blank stare.
• Cold, sweaty palms; shaking hands.
• Puffy face, blushing or paleness.
• Smell of substance on breath, body or clothes.
• Extreme hyperactivity; excessive talkativeness.
• Runny nose; hacking cough.
• Needle marks on lower arm, leg or bottom of feet.
• Nausea, vomiting or excessive sweating.
• Tremors or shakes of hands, feet or head.
• Irregular heartbeat
