Small Scale Industry
Small scale industries (SSI), can originally be
categorized into two sets, those with fewer
than 50 employees and those with 50 to 100
employees. SSIs are also referred to as
microenterprises (MEs) or are included with
small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs).

• During 1950’s growth rate was doubling every
few years.

• The extraordinary growth rates of over 20%

between 1950 and 1955 were achieved.

• After that in early 1960’s once again growth in

large manufacturing scale comes close to 20%.
Growth Rate in Large scale
• In 1970’s there was substantial reduction in
growth rates.

• In 1980’s once again there was impressive

growth of 2.3% annual growth.

• During Bhutto period annual growth reached

to 7.3%.

Which Sector gives more Employment ???

• For most people ,the image of the industry is

one where there are large plants either run by
machines, robots, or the computer, or
employing hundreds, if not thousands, f
workers.
• Thus, it comes as a surprise to many people
that it is not Large Scale which is providing
employment to most of the workers.
So the small scale sector or informal sector is
dominating on our lives. The small scale sector
is more dynamic, exhibiting impressive growth
rates in employment, output and contribution
to the Economy.
