m The ability to incorporate video into a multimedia

project marked a significant achievement in the

evolution of multimedia industry
m Video gives us the power to capture reality and
relive real events
m Video gives real evidence or proof
m Videos show something credible, real, true
m Videos can teach something, show something,
persuade people to buy something, and even
make people laugh or cry
m ` video is a series of moving objects
m Video quality is determined by three factors
6 Mrame Rate
6 Resolution
6 `spect Ratio
m Video is comprised of sequential images seen in
rapid succession
m The number of images of the video shown per
second is called the frame rate
m Videos have a frame rate of 24-45 fps. Televisions
has a frame rate of approximately 30 fps.
m Mrame is measured in frames per seconds (fps)
m ` constant frame rate is desired for smooth
playback
m If the computer is not able to replay the movie at
the frame rate it was encoded for, it will either
stutter and shutdown or dropped the frames
m Mrame rate is one of the factors affecting movie
file size and quality
m The size of a video image is measured in pixels
for digital video
m Just like images, video resolution is also affected
by the picture dimensions
m Videos range from the following sizes (in pixels)
6 320 x 240 (internet resolution)
6 640 x 480 (TV resolution)
6 1280 x 720/920 x 1080 (HDTV resolution)
m The width to height ratio of the video image is
referred to as the aspect ratio
m Ratios are expressed in the form ³width x height´
6 4x3
6 4:3
m The three most common aspect ratios are 4 x 3,
16 x 9, 21 x 9
m 4 x 3 (standard screen)
6 Œtandard television format used throughout the second
half of the 20th century
m 16 x 9 (wide screen)
6 This format has gained acceptance as the new standard
for wide screen TV, DVD and high-definition video
m 21 x 9 (cinemascope)
6 ` very wide screen format used for theatrical release
movies
m `nalog Video
6 £inear such as video tape (VHŒ)
6 Has a beginning, middle and end
6 In editing an analog video, you need to display desired
frames
m Digital Video
6 `llows random selection to any part of the video
6 Editing can be simple as cutting and pasting parts of the
video
6 `dding special effects and transitions are easy with a
video-editing program
m Digital Video has lesser generation loss
6 Ñhen you duplicate a video tape (like VHŒ), some of
noise from the recorder is added to the new tape
6 If you were to duplicate the new tape, then noise from the
previous tapes would be carried over the third tape
6 Each copy of the tape adds to the generation loss from
the original
6 Ñith digital video, the connection to the computer is
digital. There is no generation loss when transferring DV.
You can make more copies of a DV tape and it will still be
as good as the original.
m Video has made the transition from analog to
digital
m This transition has happened at every level of
industry
6 Home and Ñork ± DVDs, Digital Cable, Digital Œatellite
6 Broadcasting ± standards have been set and stations are
moving towards programming only digital television
m There are two types of digital television
6 Œtandard Definition (ŒDTV)
6 High Definition (HDTV)

m ŒDTV
6 Dffers resolution roughly equivalent to a conventional
analog signal with image display ratios or aspect ratios of
4:3 or 16:9
m HDTV
6 Dffers the potential for approximately twice the horizontal
and vertical resolution of the current analog television
6 It also takes approximately five times the bandwidth to
broadcast as ŒDTV. HDTV has a 16:9 aspect ratio
6 Not all digital TV sets sold today support HDTV, even if
they have 16:9 widescreens

m `ctual shooting of the video
m The main concerns are the lighting the cast, the
acting and the actual shooting of the video
m Today shooting analog footage (video tape) is still
common
m In order to edit the video, convert it to a digital
format
6 `VI, M^EG, QuickTime
m `VI (`udio Video Interleave)
6 Ñindow¶s Œtandard Mormat
m M^EG-4
m M£V (Mlash Video)
6 Mormat used to deliver M^EG video through Mlash ^layer
m MDV
6 `pples QuickTime Mormat
m VDB (DVD Video Dbject)
6 DVD Œtandard
m ÑMV
6 Microsoft format
m RM (Real Media)
6 Developed by real networks for streaming video and
audio
m `ssembly of different video clips
m `dding a visual effects, graphics, titles, and a
soundtrack
m To begin post-prod, you need to place the raw
video material into the computer
m Editing is done by a professional editor
m Video post-production has moved from analog
tape to tape editing to the world of digital non-
linear editing (N£E)
m Traditional tape to tape editing follows a linear
path. If you want to insert new beginning or middle
of a finished project, you have to reedit everything
after a certain point.
m Digital encoding of videos allow you to quickly cut,
copy, paste, reedit and add music, titles, and
special effects

6 `dobe `udition or `udacity
À `udio recording, mixing, and editing
6 `dobe Encore
À Tool for DVD creation
m Transitions
6 åsed to blend two different scenes or clips in a video to
create smooth playback
m Clipping
6 To cut out a portion of a video for a longer video to make
a video clip
m Made Ins and Made Duts
6 Made In is used at the start of a video to gradually start a
scene
6 Made Dut is used at the end of a video to gradually close
the video visual
m Time Œtretching
6 `lso referred to as slow motion
6 åsed to slow down the playback of video to give
emphasis on some scenes or actions
m Text Dverlay
6 åsed for adding captions, scenes titles or description
m Different hardware needed to transfer videos:
6 `/V cable for RC` input jacks
6 Œ-Video Cable Œ-Video Jack
6 Video Card
6 Mirewire Œupport
6 åŒB connection
m Videos in a multimedia project can be integrated
for several purposes:
6 Entertainment
À (music video, movie clip, TV clip)
6 Instructional
À (like a demonstration ³HDÑ TD´ video, an informative video
about a topic, a documentary.
6 Commercial
À £ike a sales video for a product, a new brand or trend, the
latest
6 ^resentation
À £ike a debut or wedding video
m Videos that are directly edited are usually in `VI or
MDV format
m Better to compress or optimize the video into a
smaller file format without losing much of the
quality
m M£V or Mlash Video works best for videos with
smaller file format
