affect vs effect- what’s the
difference?
• Affect is a verb- it means ‘to influence’
E.g. How do artificial additives affect the
children’s behaviour?

• Effect is a noun- you can say “a/an/


the/many/some” in front of it
e.g. The main effect the sugar has is
hyperactivity. There are other effects, such as
raised blood pressure and poor concentration.
