improve your parts… What is a joint? A place in the body where 2 or more bones come together
They allow bones to move in
different ways
There are 2 kinds of joints:
MOVABALE and IMMOVABLE Immovable Joints Connect bones in a way that allows little or no movement Example: Cranial Sutures (fibrous); Ribs/Sternum (cartilaginous) Movable Joints Allow the body to make a wide range of movements
Types of moveable joints (synovial):
• Ball and Socket • Pivot • Hinge • Gliding Ball and Socket Joints Found in the hip and shoulder Allows multi-directional movement Pivot Joint Found at the top of the head (cervical vertebrae) Ability to rotate your head side to side Hinge Joint Found at the knee and elbow Allows forward and backward motion Gliding Joint Found at the wrist and ankle Allows you to bend and flex and move side-to-side What happens when your joints wear out???
