 In the 1930’s but was wasn’t called attention
deficit hyperactive disorder yet
 People with ADHD where labeled as brain
injured
 Not until the 1980’s it changed to attention
deficit disorder and till late 1980’s it became
attention deficit hyperactive disorder

OTHER EFFECTIVE TREATMENT
 The most effective treatment for ADHD is
usually medication with psychotherapy, with
training for parents and teachers.
CONDITIONS
 Some conditions cause by ADHD are conduct
disorder, depression, anxiety, tourette
disorder, dyslexia, and bipolar disorder,
autism, and schizophrenia
PROBLEMS WITH MEDICATIONS
 Prescribing drugs for children is
controversial, with fear of overdosing while
other’s argue that refusing to prescribe meds
for ADHD is like withholding insulin from a
diabetic.
 In the U.S more than 2 million children and
adolescents under the age of 18 take
prescription drugs to control their emotions
and behavior.
PROBLEMS WITH MEDICATIONS
 In recent studies one in twenty children aged
six to twelve take stimulants usually for
ADHD.
 Almost all child psychologist agree that drugs
are both overused and underused in
treatment to children with ADHD. Some
children are given more meds that are
needed and some are not given any at all.
