New Delhi Television Limited

NDTVs tryst with television began way back in 1988, when it produced a news and current affairs show The World This Week for the Government-owned broadcaster Doordarshan. The show proved to be immensely popular, and NDTV established its image as a credible private news producer. It moved on to become the sole news content provider and producer for Indias first 24-hour news channel, Star News. The companys biggest milestone was established in 2003, when it launched two 24-hour news channels NDTV 24x7 in English and NDTV India in Hindi followed by a 24-hour business news channel NDTV Profit in 2005, which became a leading business news channel in a short period of time.

NDTV was the brainchild of its Chairman, Prannoy Roy, and Managing Director, Radhika Roy. Prannoy Roy brought a country to the edge of its seat with his innate knack of translating the complicated facts of election politics and budget number crunching into straight-to-the-point analysis. Several years and thousands of anchoring hours on, he has questioned and examined salient facts about how the news affects his viewers lives. Radhika Roy, as a print journalist in the mid 1980s, was quick to see the endless possibilities of televised news. With a rare combination of business acumen, editorial expertise and programming excellence, she has charted the Companys growth. Along with Prannoy and Radhika, KVL Narayan Rao has also played a vital role in the transition and growth of NDTV from a production house to a broadcaster. In his current role as CEO of the NDTV Group, he ensures that the business aspirations of NDTV of becoming a global Indian media brand are met. Under their leadership, NDTV has been home to the country's finest broadcast talent. Some of the best recognised faces on the network are Barkha Dutt, Vikram Chandra, Sonia Varma Singh, Sreenivasan Jain, Pankaj Pachauril and Sonali Chander. Together with a 550 strong team of reporters and producers around the country, they have been instrumental in building the companys brand and credibility. Vikram Chandra has successfully gone on to lead NDTV beyond news, in the arenas of entertainment, lifestyle, convergence and outsourcing.

Interview
Q] Are you been paid extra for the over time? A} Look theres nothing called overtime in this media world, you are not

working in any sales company or bank. Myself being a reporter need to be always present at those places where I we could find a hard and breaking news which could boost up our news channel whether I need to wait there for the whole day or night. I am an entertainment reporter but just For an example, I would like to explain you that while 26/11 whole of the Indian media was present at Taj and were reporting continuously for all 3 days, but the only difference was the reporters were given break while this period of time and they were replaced by other reporters. So, theres nothing called overtime.

Q] Problems they face while working? A] From past 7 to 8yrs I am working in this organization, so I

have never faced any problems while working. My were seniors were quite co-operative here in the beginning of my career so they always helped me in difficult times and were always free to answer my queries, not only mines but others to who started their career with me. And each and every facilities were provided here in the office and all the latest technology were available in the office. Q] Are you happy with the salary you receive here? A] Yes, obviously that is why I am still working in this organization and would love to continue working till the time I am satisfied with the salary and the facilities I receive here.

Q] Are you happy with facilities provided to you, like

promotion, etc? A] Look, I just said you in the last question that we are completely upgraded with all the latest technology so this is one of the main and notable points which makes us happy. And when it comes to talks like Promotion, it completely depends on the performance of an individual, how he works, and the quality in the employees work and how it benefits the organization. And leaving these facilities we are also happy with the other facilities like the canteen were you find a good and healthy food , Pick and drop services are also been provided by the organization and etc so I am happy with the facilities that I receive here.

O] How do you people get motivated here? A] The salary we receive here (laughs.), as I said that our seniors are

very co-operative so they always appreciate our work or whenever there is some mistake they dont pounce on us, they help us out with this we feel motivated and keeps our interest always on in our work. And also the working condition here in the office is always very healthy so we never feel pressurized but always feel motivated. Q] Best thing about the organization? A] There is nothing left to say for me about the organization, I would just love to that its FUN working here. Q] Where do you see yourself after 5yrs? A] Everything depends on the performance of mine so I wont comment on this question. But, obviously I would work hard to see myself as the head of the Mumbai bureau.
