Mobilink started operations in 1994 as the first GSM (Global System for mobile communication) cellular Mobile service in Pakistan by MOTOROLA Inc., Later it was sold to Orascom, an Egypt-based multinational company. The first cellular service provider to operate on a 100% digital GSM technology in Pakistan

Some important terms


SIM: subscriber identity module GSM-Global System for Mobile Communications, one of the leading digital cellular systems. GSM uses narrowband which allows eight simultaneous calls on the same radio frequency. GPRS-General Packet Radio Service, a standard for wireless communications which runs at speeds up to 115 kilobits per second, compared with current GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) systems' 9.6 kilobits. Bandwidth-The amount of data that can be transmitted in a fixed amount of time. For digital devices, the bandwidth is usually expressed in bits per second(bps) or bytes per second. Switches-in networks, a device that filters and forwards packets between LAN segments packet- a piece of message. Tariffs-A tariff may be either tax on imports or exports (trade tariff), or a list or schedule of prices for such things as rail service, bus routes, and electrical usage (electrical tariff, etc.).
