- It is telemedicine service that can provide expert consultation and life supporting treatment to patients independent of time Telemedicine broken into: - Store and forward - Remote monitoring - Real time interactive TELECARDIOLOGY INCOPORATES ALL !!!!!!

What is it?????? -Telecardiology is the process wherein a

patients electrical activity results such as ECG and other diagnostic results like Echocardiogram, Cardiac CT scan, Cardiac MRI scan, etc can be transmitted and interpreted through telephone or over the internet.

- it can be termed as a system for providing offsite interpretation of cardiac imaging and other diagnostic modalities over wireless or telephone communication lines - Hence with regard to telemedince, telecardiology can be used in all the there ways(remote monitoring, store and forward as well as interactive) - Furthermore William Einthoven started working in the transmission of ECG on wireless bases.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Computer with a web camera, a modenm,a standard telephone connection at a remote site with ISDN or broadband capacity

Cardiac consultation
A detailed history of the illness from the patient or the patients attenders Visual general assessment of the patients clinical status Auscultation of the patients heart and lungs Reading the patients ECG, chest X-ray and echocardiography, and Advicing appropriate management, including initiation of emergency life-saving treatment can be done to the satisfaction of the clinician and the patient through teleconferencing.

EXAMPLE:
One of the oldest known telecardiology system was established in Gwalior, India in 1975 at GR Medical college by Dr. Ajai Shanker, Dr. S. Makhija, P.K. Mantri. wireless transmission of ECG from the moving ICU van or the patients home to the central station in ICU of the department of Medicine. Transmission using wireless was done using frequency modulation which eliminated noise. Transmission was also done through telephone lines. The ECG output was connected to the telephone input using a modulator which converted ECG into high frequency sound. At the other end a demodulator reconverted the sound into ECG with a good gain accuracy.

-This system was also used to monitor patients with pacemakers in remote areas. The central control unit at the ICU was able to correctly interpret arrhythmia. This technique helped medical aid reach in remote areas. - Furthermore electronic stethoscopes came into use as recording devices

VANTAGE TELECARDIOLOGY
- VTC utilises the most advanced ECG devices to ensure optimum test accuracy. Resting, Stress or Holter 24 traces are captured and securely transmitted via the Vantage Platform to a team of GMC registered Consultant Cardiologists who deliver a report back within 24 hours. Integrative with patient record systems, VTC also interfaces with most ECG devices already in place within primary care. Easy to use, our solution optimises clinician times and reduces administrative procedures associated with paper-based systems.
