CARDIAC REHABILITATION

GOALS OF CARDIAC REHABILITATION


To

restore the individual to an optimal level of physical, psychological, social ,vocational function & economics. 2-To limit effects of illness, efficient & effective symptoms management. 3- To prevent progression of heart disease. 4-To improve functional capacity. 5-To reduce subsequent morbidity &mortality.

INDICATIONS OF CARDIAC REHABILITATION


Recent

myocardial infarction. Coronary by pass . Valve Surgery. Coronary angioplasty. Cardiac transplantation. Angina Compensated CHF.

CONTRAINDICATIONS OF CARDIAC REHABILITATION


Severe

Angina Uncompensated heart failure. Uncontrolled arrhythmias Sever Ischemia Uncontrolled Hypertension Hypo or hypertense response to exercises. Uncontrolled diabetes.

N.B: P,T. are responsible for facilitate, evaluate, treat, conduct exercises test under physician supervision.

ROLE OF PHYSICAL THERAPY:


Simple

Range of motion Activities Ambulation P.T is concerned with physical aspects of recovery :

Minimizing

the effects of bed rest. Enhancing cardiovascular. Enhancing musculoskeletal function. Without impairing myocardial function.

Breathing

,BP. ECG. Exercise testing.

REHABILITATION PROGRAM COMPOSED OF


When

on bed rest do a minimum of two sessions daily ( Breathing-simple circulatory 10 20 times ). 2-When up for side of bed making add the following exercises ; shoulder & swing legs, 3- when up for half an hour add shoulders stretch,& bend trunk to each side 5-10 times. (N.B.) (If patient get any chest pain during exercises stop it.)

GRADES OF EXERCISES PROGRAM :


Grade

1 : slow level walking. Grade 2: mild daily living activities as(walking, swimming, stair climb). Grade 3: Optimal endurance training as ( running , dance, tennis).

SUGGESTED EXERCISE PROGRAM FOR CARDIAC PATIENT:


Warm

up exercises. Stretching exercise Aerobic endurance exercises through treadmill and stationary bicycle. Breathing exercises Cooling down.
