Tech One-Sheet, Northwestern

Name: Alcons Infiniti Phacoemulsification Unit

What is it? This device aids in the treatment of cataracts with varying degrees of severity. The Infiniti Unit, combined with the Alcons Infiniti Vision System, increases surgical control to deliver greater outcomes and safety than with traditional cataract removal technologies.
What can it do? The device uses the Infiniti Vision System to remove cataracts. The Infiniti Vision System allows for customized treatment of each patient through a variety of accessories: The OZil Torsional Handpiece uses vibrations from ultrasound technology to break down cataracts without injuring surrounding eye tissue. The ophthalmologist inserts the ultrasonic tip into a small incision in the eye and uses suction to remove the remaining cataract fragments. The oscillating tip of the OZil Torsional Handpiece moves side-to-side to reduce resistance and turbulence. The NeoSoniX Handpiece combines sonic oscillations with linear ultrasound to reduce thermal energy during cataract removal. The AquaLase Liquification Handpiece offers an alternative to ultrasound in soft to medium density cataract lenses. The handpiece uses warmed fluid pulses to separate cataract lens tissue instead of ultrasonic or mechanical motion. Custom Fluidics Software allows for prompt sensing and adjustment of both flow rate and vacuum sensors. The Fluidic software reacts to each patients specific case, while maintaining chamber stability and safety. Is special training need to use it? This specialized equipment requires a board certified ophthalmologist. Were fortunate to have Dr. Brophey on staff who is experienced in using this device.

Winston was black. Winston was white. Winston was nothing in between. He was born on a gray day in May, some say. Or was it after a rainstorm, when a rainbow took form? Regardless of the weather, the doctor cut the tether and Winston was born. His cheeks did not fill with rushes of red, Nor were they tinted with shades of blue. With a colorless child, his parents pondered, What ever shall we do?! His eyes were ink blots freckled on a page, And his condition only got worse with age. He would dress in the morningwith a flash and a bang, His outfit would turn to ying and yang. Winston was different. There was no questioning that. He was a skunk without the stink, A cow missing his utters of pink. Poor Winston was trapped in Kansas, No munchkins, no scarecrows, To teach him their dances. The people of his town would look upon him and frown. They pitied Winstons strife and colorless life. It was not until he was old, That someone was so bold, As to ask; Do you dream in color?

My child, he smiled, The colors in my mind would make you go blind. I am every color, every shade. Dont you know how I am made?
My black absorbs every hue in view, While my white bends the light that makes this world bright. Every fiber of life is confetti, And I keep the color flowing full and steady. I may be black. I may be white. But it takes someone different like me, To see everything in between.

A Farewell to Arms

Alas, I must say goodbye to good ol left and faithful right.

Together we carried my backpack to school And raised in protest at classroom rules.

We lifted ornaments to hang on the tree, And cradled gifts for the whole family.
How could I forget cuddling and hugs? Or how you were a landing for ladybugs! I have to wonder, if I lose my arms Where will I hang my silver charms?

And more important then jewelry bands, Whatever will happen to my tiny hands?!
My teacher said to use guns and bombs, But there must be a better way to say farewell to arms.
