An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) allows customers to perform banking transactions anywhere and at anytime without the need of human teller. By using a debit or ATM card at an ATM, individuals can withdraw cash from checking or savings accounts, make a deposit or transfer money from one account to another or perform other functions.

You can also get cash advances using a credit card at an ATM.

As is often the case with inventions, many inventors contribute to the history of an invention. Don Wetzel invented the first successful and modern ATM in the USA, however he was not first inventor to create an ATM. In 1939, Luther George Simjian started patenting an earlier and not-so-successful version of an ATM. It took five million dollars to develop the ATM. The world's first ATM was installed in Enfield Town in the London Brought of Enfield, London on June 27 1967.

The typical ATM customer will spend 20-25% more than a nonATM customer, according to research conducted by AT&T Global Information Solutions. An automatic teller machine reduces risk and lowers costs. An automatic teller machine pays for itself.

CPU (to control the user interface and transaction devices) Magnetic and/or Chip card reader (to identify the customer) PIN Pad (similar in layout to a Touch tone or Calculator keypad), often manufactured as part of a secure enclosure. Secure cryptoprocessor, generally within a secure enclosure. Display (used by the customer for performing the transaction) Function key buttons (usually close to the display) or a Touchscreen (used to select the various aspects of the transaction) Record Printer (to provide the customer with a record of their transaction) Vault (to store the parts of the machinery requiring restricted access) Housing (for aesthetics and to attach signage to)

Today the vast majority of ATMs worldwide use a Microsoft Windows OS, primarily Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Embedded. Linux is also finding some reception in the ATM marketplace. An example of this is Banrisul, the largest bank in the south of Brazil, which has replaced the MS-DOS operating systems in its ATMs with Linux.

Hidden Cameras Anti-Skimming Devices Security Guards PIN code

Near every ATM are installed hidden cameras.

The hidden cameras record for 24 hours and everything what is going on around the ATM.

ATM are equipped with some kind of devices called Anti-Skimming Devices, they dont let someone install other (skimming) devices in ATM. In the case of installing other fraud devices the ATM automatically stops working.

Every bank has a agreement with a security company that provides security if any possible ATM robbery. It takes just minutes before the security guard arrive in any case of robbery. The security guard are well trained an ready in any case to interfer.
