KCA Authenticity & Mandate


It is the only Counsellors & Psychologists Association Recognized by Government The Public Service Scheme of Service for Counselling Personnel, 2009 indicates that one has to be a member of KCA at entry & in job group promotions The Public Service Counselling procedure manual, 2009 from pg. 41-45 has adopted KCA Code of Ethics as the standard code for government counsellors. The Board ensured we have a website in2009 We have an immaculate website that has various features that inform members & provide space for interaction You can advertise your products with our KCA website You need to also utilize the website by writing articles that will be vetted before being put in the website

Finance Audit & Accountability


When we assumed office, finance dept was highly challenged & Ksh 514, 986 was lost through lack of fool proof systems and policies-in the year 2011 AGM we unanimously cancelled it as a bad debt We did financial Audit for years it had not been done. These include: 2006,2007 & 2008 We developed a Finance & Procurement Manual to forestall future such occurrences

Code of Ethics
The Code of Ethics will act as an ethical guide for setting ethical standards and defining professional practice in counselling and psychology. It specifies the ethical responsibilities and forms the basis for processing of enquiries and ethical complaints against members of KCA. Gachutha Prof

KCA Policy
Will be the standard manual of protocols, procedures, regulations and principles that will guide best practices of the Association. It will be revised after every three years so to incorporate emerging issues for KCA and to ensure best practices on an ongoing basis.

Accreditation Policy
In 2009 we had a retreat at Meridian Court Hotel to develop SEAC Policy We appreciate Dinah Kituyi for funding the retreat. The document has been useful in guiding the SEAC on accreditation process Prof Gachutha

Diploma Curricula in Counselling Psychology


The Diploma Curricula in Counselling Psychology were approved last year, 2011 by KIE Academic Board. KCA and KIE entered a collaboration signed on 22/5/2009 to develop Diploma curricula. Great monetary & human resource support was given by KIE, MOE, MSPS, Liverpool, KCA affiliate institutions & individual members Cross cutting Issues dept has factored manuals for the programs in this years performance contract.

It is in its advanced stage with the MSPS We have continued to incorporate stakeholders recommendations We have settled it will incorporate both counsellors & psychologists We have to brace ourselves to ensure the Bill goes through

Decentralization of KCA
KCA decentralized structure is governed through regions & chapters. The Chapter is the smallest constituency of KCA These regions include: Coast, Western (Nyanza and Western), Central, Nairobi, Rift Valley & Eastern and North Eastern We have the National Coordinators & Regional committees who provide governance to Regions.

Partnership With Government Ministries & Departments


KCA has partnered with the following: NACADAA in key projects: Kenya Addiction Professionals Code of ethics, developed National Standards for Treatment and Rehabilitation of Persons with Substance Abuse Disorders and Addiction Professionals Certification Policy MSPS in the development of Counsellors & Psychologists Act KIE and MOE in the development of the counselling curricula. MOYAS in capacity building their service providers Ministry of Special Programs in community services

KRA Exception Certificate for VAT Payment KCA is exempted from VAT payment with a letter dated 22nd March, 2011. Services offered by KCA to its members are exempt from VAT under paragraph 16 (b) of the 3rd schedule of the VAT Act. However, KCA is not exempt from paying VAT for purchase of goods and services for use n the organization.

KCA Trainings
KCA Policy has a provision for relevant trainings for counsellor & psychologists empowerment These trainings can generate revenue for the Association The Counsellor supervision & Narrative trainings by Prof. Vange Theissen Canadan earned KCA -----Prof Gachutha

Funds Mobilization
We have conducted two key fund raising events & you have given generously We fundraised in Pan Afric Hotel & invited PLO Lumumba, Bishop Njoroge, Episcopal Charismatic Church & Arch Bishop Mwana Nzeki at 2009 towards curricula development Last year 2011, we had a major Harambee & we raised Ksh 609, 250 for stalled projects Rosina Mruttu is the Board member in charge of funds mobilization & she has done great work

KCA New Offices


We are grateful to deliver your cry to relocate KCA offices to a more ideal location We have managed to relocate to new offices at KTDA Plaza 6th floor It is a beautiful ideal centralized office with more space You can conduct clinical sessions & trainings according to KCA policy

AGM 2012
Elections are today & we will choose the national Chair, two board members & two SEAC members We are glad the campaigns were in high gear & the candidates demonstrated dignity & integrity in their campaigns The Board was monitoring the whole process to ensure issues are dealt with on a continuous basis As we get to the elections, the winners & losers are members of KCA & all are needed in growing KCA
