If your letter and resume are effective, you may be short listed for an interview. Once you have been offered an interview, you must start preparing for it. The better prepared you are, the more confident and less fearful you will be.

Why we need to interview you?


For the employer/interviewer to find out whether you can really do the job and fit into the company or organization. On your side, you want to determine whether the job is right for you and whether you will be comfortable working for the company. Describe carefully the description of nature of the job and the company to you.

Types of interview
One on one interview Panel interview Multilevel interview

The interviewee
1. Prepare well 2. Choose your clothes, shoes and accessories 3. Make a list of questions that you would like to ask 4. Rehearse beforehand 5. Be yourself and be honest

6. Try to relax and smile as much as possible 7. Listen carefully 8. Leave calmly- dont rush off

The interviewer
1. Aim to put the interviewee at ease as soon as you meet. 2. Try to avoid asking closed questions which only call for yes or no replies 3. Smile, nod, use appropriate gestures to show that you have a genuine interest in what interviewee is saying

TYPICAL QUESTIONS IN INTERVIEW SESSION

Get acquainted questions


Tell me about yourself Where did you study for tertiary education? Which part of your college/university life did you enjoy the most? How do you spend your spare time?

Questions about your experience and accomplishments


Tell me about your internship What were your major achievements in your previous job? Why do you want to leave your current post?

Questions about your future plans


Where do you see yourself in five years time? What are your goals in life?

Questions about your commitment to the company


Would you consider relocating if the company moved to another state? Would you consider working overtime if the company needed you to?

Questions that will make you uncomfortable


What are your main weaknesses? Which part of your personality would you change if you could?

Questions about money


How much salary do you think you are worth? What is your expected salary? Would you consider a pay cut if the company is not doing well?

Plan your own questions


What will my duties be? What are the possibilities of promotion? How is job performance evaluated?

Avoid asking questions on your salary and benefits. It is advisable to wait until the interviewer brings up the question of money.

On the day of the interview


Create a good impression Be punctual. Make sure you are not late for your interview Dress appropriately Remember to bring all relevant documents
