SUPERIOR FLUX HISTORY

Superior Flux, founded in Cleveland in 1932 by William Ulmer, has a long history of providing more efficient, safer and Environmentally friendly fluxes for soldering, brazing, and welding. 1941. US Patent No. 2,357,014 was submitted for the first potassium bifluoride free silver brazing flux and awarded to Bill Ulmer in 1944. Superior No. 6 is still being used today! 1949. Superior Flux introduces Battelle formula Superior Supersafe No. 30, the OA, VOC-Free, water-soluble flux that predates the Montreal Protocol by 47 years. Called The Blue Flux by many. 1982. Superior Flux introduces No. 612 Hi-Temp flux, the forerunner of fluxes for mining and construction tools, snowplow blades and other carbide applications. 1994. Superior introduces ZC-Free fluxes to replace zinc chloride from waste waters and remove heavy metal from soldering process. 1995. Superior introduces SyberGel Flux and Cleaner to electronics market. Removes solvent cleaning from electronics post-solder process. 2001. Superior Flux introduces first Fluoride Free Fluxes onto market. Brazing can now be Cadmium Free and Fluoride Free. but these developments are a continuation of the first patent submission.

SUPERIOR FLUX DEDICATED TO FLUXES

Superior Flux was founded in 1932 by William L. Ulmer and has been committed to flux research and development since. Superior Flux submitted first patent application for flux in 1938. Superior has led way to safer Bifluoride-Free and Fluoride Free brazing fluxes. Superior manufactures VOC-Free, ZC-Free, non-hazardous soldering fluxes

U.S. Patent No. 2,281,910

The first patent assigned to William L. Ulmer, submitted in 1938, describes a breakthrough: Such fluxes or fluxing agents are preferably in liquid form and consequently reducible to vaporous, gaseous or mechanically finely-divided form, so they may be entrained in a gas stream supplied to the torch. U. S. Patent 2,281,910 was awarded May 5, 1942.

SUPERIOR FLUX and PRINCE & IZANT INTRODUCE

Based on William Ulmer patent 2,281,910. ANSI/AWS A5.31-92, FB3-K specification.

For use in Oxy-Acetylene or Liquefied Petroleum Gas-Lines

Fluoride Free Flux.

ANSI/AWS A5.31-92, FB3-K SPECIFICATION

A6.14 FB3-K is a liquid flux used almost exclusively in TORCH* brazing. The fuel gas is passed through the container of liquid flux entraining flux in the fuel gas. The flux is applied by the flame where needed on base metals such as carbon steels, low alloy steels, cast iron, copper and copper alloys, nickel and nickel alloys, and precious metals. The flux consists primarily of liquid borates.
* Emphasis added.

SUPERIOR BRAZING CHARACTERISTICS

The TORCHFLUX flame delivers flux to joints which yields: Superior oxide protection Superior fluxing action Superior joints Cleans copper joints during use Clean post-braze joints

CHARACTERISTICS OF TORCHFLUX
TORCHFLUX yields a GREEN FLAME.
The Green Flame confirms that flux is being delivered to the joint. Flame is green due to the fluxs boron activator being delivered into the gaslines. Boron imparts a green-color to the flame.
A blue flame indicates no flux is present.

APPLICATIONS
TORCHFLUX is formulated for use with a variety of
different alloys, including:
BCuP Phos-Copper Alloys BAg Silver Brazing Alloys CDA Low Fuming Bronze Alloys

TORCHFLUX can be used in a variety of

manufacturing processes including brass, bronze, steel tube and flange joints for air conditioning, refrigeration, medical and many other assemblies.

FORMULATIONS
TORCHFLUX is available in three
formulations that provide custom activity:

TORCHFLUX 30 Low Solids for copper and brass TORCHFLUX 50 Mid-range solids for mild steel TORCHFLUX 70 High Solids and activity
Custom formulations can also be developed to meet application requirements.

THE TORCHFLUX TEAM

Superior Flux and Prince & Izant provide a complete line of alloys, fluxes, technical support and on-time delivery.
