Introduction
Inpatient and outpatient are common terms in the medical field that can be used to describe a variety of care or facilities available to patients. Some medical facilities, like hospitals, may offer both types of care, depending upon the needs of the persons involved.

DEFINITION Inpatient" means that the procedure requires the patient to be admitted to the hospital, primarily so that he or she can be closely monitored during the procedure and afterwards, during recovery.

IMPORTANCE
1.Accomodation and care of patients at a point in an illness when dependence on others is its most. 2.The care provided to the patients are not only curative but also promotive and rehabilative services. 3.The care is to be provided in such a way that the patient feels at home inspite of pain, distress and being away from his family environment.

1.Highest possible quality of medical and nursing care of the patient. 2.To provide necessary equipment, essential drugs and other required for patient cure and care process. 3.Furnish most desirable environment substitutes as temporary home for the patient.

Diets are an important part of medical care. It is assuming increasing importance as communicable diseases give way to stress diseases . A centralized dietary services is a must in all hospitals. Dietician. Canteen/cafeteria.
