His experience as a teacher made him keenly aware that few novels for young readers have been written about pre-Columbian society. To enhance middle- and high-school students' understanding of Aztec culture, and to help teachers provide instruction on pre-Columbian life, he created this historical novel about an Aztec youth.view less
