Bornstein, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, in Charleston, S.C., U.S. Dr. Bornstein has held national leadership positions in the physical activity and public health field, including Project Coordinator for the U.S. National Physical Activity Plan from 2009 to 2014, and Chair of the American Public Health Association's Physical Activity Section from 2015 to 2016. Dr. Bornstein serves on several national committees including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Committee on Physical Activity Communications, the American Heart Association's Expert Advisory Group on Physical Education and Physical Activity Policy in Schools, the National Physical Activity Plan's Communications Committee. Locally, Dr. Bornstein is a member of the City of Charleston's Mayor's Health and Wellness Committee for the City of Charleston, and he is Chair of The Citadel's Fitness Pillar. Dr. Bornstein has published extensively in the areas of physical activity monitoring, physical activity coalitions, physical activity communication and messaging, and physical activity as it relates to military readiness and national security. Dr. Bornstein's research has also been the focus of federal congressional briefings and senior military briefings. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Bornstein owned and operated fitness companies in the southwestern region of the U.S. Dr. Bornstein received his BS in psychology from Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y. and his doctoral degree in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.view less
